About Us
Welcome To Gambit Goldens
Gambit is a small 'hobby' kennel located in central NJ, just outside of Trenton. I produce show quality litters and I am always mindful that temperment and health are of paramount importance. All of my dogs have been cleared for hips, heart, eyes and elbows. All puppies are sold with a contract that is designed to protect the buyer, breeder, and of course, the puppy. Inquiries are invited.
OUR HISTORY
While watching Good Morning America in 1978, I saw Roger Karas ,
the past voice of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, with several beautiful
golden retrievers. Roger went on to describe the many virtues of
the breed, and for me, it was love at first sight. I immediately
began searching for a breeder. In February 1979, I purchased a female
puppy and the rest is history. I bred her in 1982 and kept two female
pups and soon after, joined the Princeton Dog Training Club. I began showing
in Novice A Obedience trials at local sanctioned match shows and later
at AKC sanctioned dog shows.
In 1984, I purchased a show prospect puppy from Sue Taylor (OKEECHOBEE). This
male pup was a grandson of Sue's famous "Jake" and was sired by her
Jake son, Ch.
Okeechobee Rockhill Kidd. This pups formal name was Okeechobee's
Stamp of Approval . Better known as Sam , he was
shown by the late Bob Stebbins and became my first Champion. On
the way to his Championship, Sam was awarded Reserve Winners
Dog at
the National Specialty Show in 1987.
Sam sired my next Champion , Ch. Gambit's Rip Roarin , as well as Canadian Ch. Gambit's Barley of Boulder and Mexican and International Ch. Gambit's Prodigal Sun. Sam was a wonderful companion for 15 years 11 months. Many of his offspring lived years beyond the average longevity of the breed. All of my present day dogs can be traced back to Sam.

While I continue to breed show quality puppies, most of my pups are
sold to those who are looking
puppies that come from a sound genetic background. Health, temperament
and longevity are carefully planned components of my breeding strategy. I
take great pride in knowing that I am breeding dogs that will
be with their families for many happy and healthy years.
All of my puppies are sold with a contract that is designed to protect
the interest of the purchaser, the puppy and myself.
